Wu/Shanghainese in rap, on Web sites, etc.

Posted on Friday, May 6, 2005 by Pinyin Info

A relatively long article on people using the language of Shanghai in various forms: 海外年轻人玩转上海方言 (Hǎiwài niánqīngrén wán zhuǎn Shànghǎi fāngyán)

The article mentions a number of Web sites, including:
* wu-chinese.org
* shanghaining.com
* Sinolect.org

To these, I would add
* zanhe.com

At least he didn’t say ‘ideograms’

Posted on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 by Pinyin Info

An AFP article, “Close encounters on rise as UFOs seize imagination of Chinese”, tells of Sun Shili, a 67-year-old retired Beijing professor who was once a Spanish translator for Mao Zedong during high-level state visits. Sun is looking forward to meeting extra-terrestrials.

Sun says language will not be a problem. “We expect to communicate using telepathy,” he says.
