Today we&#8217;re going to examine the Chinese character ccTLDs (country code top-level domains) for those places that use Chinese characters and compare the figures with those for the respective Roman alphabet TLDs. <\/p>\n<p>In other words, how, for example, does the use of <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_taiwan_traditional.png\"\n  alt=\"taiwan in traditional Chinese characters\u00a0 \u00a0.&#21488;&#28771;\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  style=\"height: 1em;\"\/> domains compare with the use of <strong>.tw<\/strong> domains? <\/p>\n<p>Since, unlike the case with Singapore, I don&#8217;t have the registration figures, I&#8217;m having to make do with Google hits, which is a different measure. For this purpose, Google is unfortunately a bit of a blunt instrument. But at least it should be a fairly <em>evenhanded<\/em> blunt instrument and will be useful in establishing baselines for later comparisons. <\/p>\n<p>A few notes before we get started: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Japan has yet to bother with completing the process for its own name in kanji (<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_riben.png\" alt=\"Japan, as written in kanji \/ Chinese characters\"  style=\"height: 1em;\" \/>), so it is omitted here.<\/li>\n<li>Macau only recently asked for <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_aomen_simplified.png\"\n  alt=\"aomen in simplified Chinese characters\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  .&#28595;&#38376; \" style=\"height: 1em;\"\/> and   <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_aomen_traditional.png\"\n  alt=\"aomen in traditional Chinese characters\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  .&#28595;&#38272;\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 style=\"height: 1em;\"\/>, so those figures are still at zero. <\/li>\n<li>Oddly enough, there&#8217;s no  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_taiwan_super_traditional.png\"\n  alt=\"taiwan_super in traditional Chinese characters\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  .&#33274;&#28771;\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 style=\"height: 1em;\"\/> ccTLD, even though the Ma administration, which was in power when Taiwan&#8217;s ccTLDs went into effect, officially prefers the more complex form of  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_taiwan_super_traditional.png\"\n  alt=\"taiwan_super in traditional Chinese characters\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  .&#33274;&#28771;\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 style=\"height: 1em;\"\/> to   <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_taiwan_traditional.png\"\n  alt=\"taiwan in traditional Chinese characters\u00a0 \u00a0.&#21488;&#28771;\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n  style=\"height: 1em;\"\/> &mdash; not to mention prefering it to <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2015\/10\/dot_taiwan_simplified.png\"\n  alt=\"taiwan in
