It gained especially wide attention after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/05\/11\/education\/11stuff.html?pagewanted=all\">the <em>New York Times<\/em> published a front-page article about it<\/a>. A related <a href=\"http:\/\/storyofstuff.org\/book.php\">book<\/a> was released earlier this month. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/storyofstuff.force.com\/download\">entire video can be downloaded freely<\/a> in high- and low-resolution versions. And now there&#8217;s a collection of subtitles of possible interest to many readers of Pinyin News. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/readings\/subtitles\/story_of_stuff\/StoryOfStuff_Mandarin_Pinyin.zip\">zip file contains seven subtitle files<\/a>: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hanyu Pinyin with tone marks<\/li>\n<li>Hanyu Pinyin without tone marks<\/li>\n<li>traditional Chinese characters (Unicode)<\/li>\n<li>traditional Chinese characters (Big5)<\/li>\n<li>simplified Chinese characters (Unicode)<\/li>\n<li>simplified Chinese characters (GB)<\/li>\n<li>English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The star of the video, author Annie Leonard, has a lot to get through in just 20 or so minutes, so many people may find it easier, at least at first, to read the Pinyin subtitles that do not include tone marks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute video on the costs and absurdities of having a culture wrapped up in unchecked consumerism.
