{"id":2778,"date":"2009-08-15T23:34:20","date_gmt":"2009-08-15T15:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2009-08-16T14:48:36","modified_gmt":"2009-08-16T06:48:36","slug":"web-pages-with-mandarin-text-to-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/2009\/web-pages-with-mandarin-text-to-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Web pages with Mandarin text to speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2009\/08\/nian4.gif\" alt=\"the Chinese character '?' and with the pinyin 'ni\u00e0n' above it\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 200px; float: right;\" \/>My recent addition to this site of <a href=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/2009\/ba-jin-in-pinyin-with-audio\/\">Mandarin text with audio<\/a> brought to mind the issue of text-to-speech for Mandarin. <\/p>\n<p>Here are some Web pages that allow you to input texts (albeit very brief ones in most cases) in Chinese characters and hear them pronounced in Mandarin and, in a few instances, Cantonese as well. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oddcast.com\/home\/demos\/tts\/tts_example.php?sitepal\">Oddcast<\/a> (Sitepal). Although one of the options is for &#8220;Taiwanese,&#8221; texts are not read in that language (Hoklo) but rather in Mandarin.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/cling.omy.sg\/\">Cling<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sinovoice.com.cn\/english\/tiyan.html\">Sinovoice<\/a>. Be sure to enter the &#8220;code&#8221; number or the text won&#8217;t be spoken aloud. <\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/e-guidedog.sourceforge.net\/ekho.php\">Ekho<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ecl.iflytek.com\/ListenToThis\/\">Iflytek<\/a>. This is is particularly interesting because it can add Hanyu Pinyin above the Hanzi that are being read.
