(Fortunately, the Internet is now providing some leads. Thanks, Brendan and Joel!) But I did find some other books to bring home. <\/p>\n<p>I acquired lots of books by Zhou Youguang, not all of which focus primarily on linguistics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"py\">H&#224;ny&#468; P&#299;ny&#299;n w&#233;nhu&#224; j&#299;nli&#225;ng<\/span> (&#27721;&#35821;&#25340;&#38899;&#25991;&#21270;&#27941;&#26753;)<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"py\">Y&#468;y&#225;n w&#233;nz&#236; xu&#233; de x&#299;n t&#224;nsu&#466;<\/span> (&#35821;&#35328;&#25991;&#23383;&#23398;&#30340;&#26032;&#25506;&#32034;)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lz.book.sohu.com\/serialize-id-9995.html\"><span class=\"py\">Zh&#333;u Y&#466;ugu&#257;ng b&#462;i su&#236; k&#466;ush&#249;<\/span> (&#21608;&#26377;&#20809;&#30334;&#23895;&#21475;&#36848;)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"py\">B&#462;i su&#236; x&#299;n g&#462;o<\/span> (&#30334;&#23895;&#26032;&#31295;)<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"py\">Y&#468;y&#225;n xi&#225;nt&#225;n<\/span> (&#35821;&#35328;&#38386;&#35848;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other than the Zhou Youguang books, here are my favorite finds of the trip, as they are for the most part in correctly word-parsed Hanyu Pinyin (with Hanzi underneath), along with a few notes in English:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All three volumes in the &#8220;torrents&#8221; trilogy (<span class=\"py\">J&#299;li&#250; s&#257;nb&#249;q&#468;<\/span> \/ &#28608;&#27969;&#19977;&#37096;&#26354;) by <span class=\"py\">B&#257; J&#299;n<\/span> (&#24052;&#37329; \/ Ba Jin):\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/210.72.20.211:3041\/en\/bookdetail.cfm?iBookNo=3928&amp;sYc=2-1\"><span class=\"py\">Ji&#257;<\/span> (&#23478;\/<em>Family<\/em>)<\/a>. One of the classics of modern Chinese literature.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/210.72.20.211:3041\/en\/bookdetail.cfm?iBookNo=3927&amp;sYc=2-1\"><span class=\"py\">Ch&#363;n<\/span> (&#26149;\/<em>Spring<\/em>)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/210.72.20.211:3041\/en\/bookdetail.cfm?iBookNo=3929&amp;sYc=2-1\"><span class=\"py\">Qi&#363;<\/span> (&#31179;\/<em>Autumn<\/em>)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/210.72.20.211:3041\/en\/bookdetail.cfm?iBookNo=3930&amp;sYc=2-1\"><span class=\"py\"><\/span> W&#233;ich&#233;ng (&#22285;&#22478;\/&#22260;&#22478;\/ <em>The Besieged City<\/em> (a.k.a. <em>Fortress Besieged<\/em>))<\/a>, by <span class=\"py\">Qi&#225;n Zh&#333;ngsh&#363;<\/span> (&#37666;&#37758;&#26360;\/&#38065;&#38202;&#20070;\/Qian Zhongshu). This is a <em>terrific<\/em> novel. I&#8217;m looking forward to reading it in Pinyin, albeit in an abridged edition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ll soon be posting more about the above books with Pinyin, so watch this site for updates. Really, this is gonna be good. <\/p>\n<p>Although this collection of Y.R. Chao says it&#8217;s volume 15, it&#8217;s actually two books:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"py\">Zh&#224;o Yu&#225;nr&#232;n qu&#225;nj&#237;, d&#236; 15 ju&#224;n<\/span> (&#36249;&#20803;&#20219;&#20840;&#38598;&#31532;15&#21367;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some more titles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Measured Words: The Development of Objective Language Testing<\/em>, by Bernard Spolsky<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"py\">P&#468;t&#333;nghu&#224; shu&#464;p&#237;ng c&#232;sh&#236; sh&#237;sh&#299; g&#257;ngy&#224;o<\/span> (&#26222;&#36890;&#35441;&#27700;&#24179;&#28204;&#35430;&#23526;&#26045;&#32177;&#35201;). Now with the great smell of beer! But it&#8217;s always good to have more than one spare when it comes to one of the two most important books on Pinyin orthography.
