But since I still don&#8217;t have anything ready I&#8217;ll make do for now with mention of just a few relatively recent items elsewhere: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>syz of Beijing Sounds has been about as busy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bjshengr.com\/bjs\/2008\/12\/\">this month<\/a> as I have been useless.<\/li>\n<li>Johan of Talking Taiwanese has more of his well-researched and generally depressing findings (though it&#8217;s not all bad news): <a href=\"http:\/\/johangijsen.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/taiwans-urban-language-shift.html\">Taiwan&#8217;s Urban Language Shift<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Jennifer 8. Lee of the <em>New York Times<\/em> writes on <a href=\"http:\/\/cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com\/2008\/12\/04\/how-helvetica-took-over-the-subway\/?hp\">How Helvetica Took Over the Subway<\/a>, which led me to the image at right from NYC&#8217;s Canal Street subway station.
