{"id":1138,"date":"2008-05-26T23:42:13","date_gmt":"2008-05-26T15:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/?p=1138"},"modified":"2018-09-03T17:51:35","modified_gmt":"2018-09-03T09:51:35","slug":"mandarin-newspaper-with-pinyin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/2008\/mandarin-newspaper-with-pinyin\/","title":{"rendered":"Mandarin newspaper with Pinyin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/news_photos\/2008\/05\/huayuxuebao_masthead.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"huayuxuebao_masthead\" width=\"420\" height=\"179\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Victor Mair&#8217;s latest post at Language Log introduces a new U.S.-based newspaper, the <em>Huayu Xuebao<\/em> (<em>Mandarin Learning Newspaper<\/em>, &#33775;&#35486;&#23416;&#22577;), which is similar to Taiwan&#8217;s <em>Guoyu Ribao<\/em> (<em>Mandarin Daily News<\/em>), the main difference being the former uses Hanyu Pinyin while the latter uses <a href=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/romanization\/bopomofo\/index.html\"><em>zhuyin fuhao<\/em> (bopo mofo)<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Well, actually the <em>Huayu Xuebao<\/em> doesn&#8217;t use <a href=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/readings\/zyg\/rules.html\">proper Pinyin<\/a> (see <a href=\"https:\/\/pinyin.info\/news\/2008\/online-texts-in-hanyu-pinyin\/\">recent remarks<\/a>). But I&#8217;m so happy to see this long-needed paper that I&#8217;ll hold my tongue for now. <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the paper doesn&#8217;t have its Web site ready yet &#8212; not that the long-established <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdnkids.com\/\"><em>Guoyu Ribao<\/em><\/a> is much better at that, at least when it comes to texts as they appear in the newspaper.
